Florida mail guide
How to send a letter to someone in a Florida prison
A practical starting point for routine Florida Department of Corrections mail. Confirm the recipient’s identity and the latest official instructions before paying.
1. Confirm the recipient
Use the recipient’s full committed name and current Florida Department of Corrections DC number. The name and number must identify the right person even though routine mail uses a centralized address.
2. Use Florida’s routine-mail address
Address routine FDC mail to: Inmate Last Name, First Name, DC# · PO Box 23608 · Tampa, FL 33623. Send it through the U.S. Postal Service. Legal and privileged mail follows a different direct-to-institution process.
3. Expect scanning or copying
Florida’s processor scans routine mail for electronic delivery. A person without tablet or kiosk access may receive a printed copy. FDC does not publicly promise that the displayed or printed reproduction will remain in color.
4. Keep the packet simple
WriteBack places each personal image on a smooth letter-size page behind the letter. Florida’s rule limits photographs to 8×10 inches and prohibits certain content and formats. Do not add glue, tape, staples, stickers, substances, or coded material.
5. Use a real return address
Florida requires the sender’s actual identity and return address. WriteBack cannot conceal the sender through a third-party return address, and it cannot control postal transit, scanning quality, inspection, rejection, or delivery.
